10th Lake Placid plans underway.

The Adirondack Film Society Board of Directors is pleased to announce that plans are underway to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Lake Placid Film Forum.

The first 10th anniversary event took place on November 13, 2009 at the Palace Theatre in Lake Placid, 7:30 P.M. when the Adirondack Film Society celebrated 10 years of showing silent films at the Lake Placid Film Forum.

Thee first anniversary silent film was “Speedy” (1928) starring one of the greatest comedians of the Silent Film Era, Harold Lloyd.

...the first silent film that the Adirondack Film Society presented at the
Palace Theatre was on May 14, 1999?
THE FILM WAS “The Thief of Bagdad.” (1924) starring Douglas Fairbanks.

DID YOU KNOW...

...the very first silent film shown at the Palace Theatre was “Janice Meredith, the Beautiful Rebel“ (1924) starring Marion Davies? It was filmed in Lake Placid and on the Saranac River near Plattsburgh.

Jeff Barker provided the accompaniment on the Robert Morton Theater Organ.

DID YOU KNOW...

...the Film Forum was founded by an artist, (Naj Wikoff), a film critic, (Kathleen Carroll) and a novelist/screenwriter (Russell Banks).

Banks said, “...we wanted to build a concept where people who are passionate about films could come together and learn from each other.”

Sufficient funds were raised at the Silent Film series to get the first Lake Placid Film Forum off the ground in June, 2000.

Adirondack Film Society hope to bring you many special events leading up to the 10th
anniversary celebration of the Lake Placid Film Forum in June.
