ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL OPENS THIS WEDNESDAY

September 23rd 2008 07:40
The 2008 Italian Film Festival now in its ninth year opened in Melbourne last Wednesday with a Gala screening of ‘Tutta la Vita Davanti’ (Her Whole Life Ahead) at Cinema Como in Melbourne’s South Yarra and for a moment there you could have sworn that they had resettled the nearby suburb of Carlton for a celebration of all things Italian most of all its cinema.

HER WHOLE LIFE AHEAD is a very clever satire that centres on the lives, loves and struggles of employees at an Italian Call Centre. Isabelle Ragonese (a name you will see a lot more on both Italian and International credits in the coming future) plays Marta, a philosophy student working in the call centre after a chance encounter with a young working mother (Sabrina Ferilli) while she searches for work in her chosen field. A biting satire on Italian society, director Paolo Virzi is not afraid to say what’s on his mind.
