For those of you already in the know, music has always been a major part of the motion picture industry.

From the very beginnings over 100 years ago., music helped to set the mood. Silents were accompanied by at the very least a sole pianist and even by full piece orchestral arrangements complementing the action up on the screen. Some of the biggest movies ever made have relied heavily on their musical interludes throughout the course of the action. From THE WIZARD OF OZ (Somewhere over the Rainbow), CASABLANCA (You must Remember This) on to THE GODFATHER, THE GRADUATE (Mrs Robinson) and THE STING and even today with such Box Office smashes such as FORREST GUMP and TITANIC we all like a little music with our movies.

WHAT’S YOUR STORY?

January 13th 2009 16:01
Pitching sessions can be quite cutthroat, and if you haven’t prepared yourself for the onslaught then your likely to die a horrible death on the day. Now with the trouble-free availability of cameras and facilities assisting budding filmmakers the pitch process is heading in a new direction.

A recent article in an antipodean film magazine discussed the use of the dvd pitch as the face of the future as far as trying to get your story or idea funded. The idea was to make the film you want to make but compact it into 5 – 10 minutes. Send off your completed film to all and sundry with the idea being that if they like your work as well as your idea, you receive the financial and organizational support you need. The same subject was broached even more strongly at last years SPAA FRINGE whilst also touching on the internet as a new major player. With today’s technology here is no respectable reason why any prospective filmmaker can’t get their ideas out there to be seen by the majority of decision makers.

RHODE ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL CALL.

January 13th 2009 08:00
The folks at the Rhode Island Film Festival are looking forward to another splendid year after ending 2008 with the promotion of Demetria James Carr to the position of Managing Director. And don’t forget that the early bird entry date for the 2009 festival is January 15. Although the festival runs from August 4 – 9 2009, if you want your film screened now is the time to get your submission ready. With RIIFF one of only 63 festivals out of around 7000 worldwide receiving Academy recognition it could be the one that sends your career into orbit (more information later).

After working with the festival for the last 3 years, Mrs. Carr will now oversee the creation of events as well as participate in the marketing and developing community awareness as part of her ongoing role with RIIFF.
