A record 17 Australian films selected

Seventeen Australian films will screen at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, the largest selection of Australian films to ever screen at one of the world’s premiere film festivals.

“It is deeply pleasing to see one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals recognise the diversity and creativity of the Australian industry,” said Ruth Harley, Screen Australia Chief Executive Officer. “Screening in Toronto is a wonderful launching pad into the North American market, and selection is testament to the talent of the filmmaking teams and the calibre of their projects. We congratulate all those involved on their selection.”

TRIBECA FILM INSTITUTE'S 2010 TRIBECA ALL ACCESS TO TAKE PLACE APRIL 19 - APRIL 26, 2010

The Tribeca Film Festival announced today that the ninth Tribeca Film Festival will be held April 21 - May 2, 2010 in New York City and that the Tribeca Film Institute's Tribeca All Access (TAA) program will take place April 19 - April 26, 2010. The Festival has also announced a Call for Submissions for narrative and documentary features as well as for short film entries. TAA has announced a call for qualifying feature length scripts and documentary works-in-progress.

FTO CONGRATULATES ALL NSW FILMMAKERS

TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The Toronto International Film Festival has made an initial announcement of films selected to screen at the Festival in September, with more announcements expected over coming weeks. The Film and Television Office in NSW recently posted its congratulations to all NSW filmmakers with films selected. Films that have received financial support from the NSW Government through the FTO or the Film Investment Attraction Fund are Mao's Last Dancer, Beautiful Kate, Bright Star and Samson and Delilah which won the Camera D'Or at this years Cannes Film Festival.

The AFI is delighted to once again, for the third consecutive year offer the AFI Fellowship grant of $20,000. The AFI encourages and welcomes applications from aspiring Australian screen practitioners who have a unique, imaginative and realistic vision, which they wish to pursue to further enhance their career.

After being awarded the 2008 AFI Fellowship grant, John L Simpson was provided the opportunity and financial support to personally research and develop a regional screenings map. John L has travelled extensively over the past 10 months to regional communities to screen Men's Group which he wrote produced and distributed. ABC3 Get Your Game On!

Up to $30,000 in development funding is up for grabs from ABC Childrens Television as part of a new initiative to be held at the SPAA Conference.

Producers are invited to submit a brief concept document for a game/quiz show suitable for commissioning as a long-running, low-cost series on ABC3. The project is aimed at an audience of kids aged 8 to 12 years.

BARN DOOR opens September 4.

Barn Door Pictures announced the release of their first feature film TICKLING LEO. The film will simultaneously be released in theaters, on DVD and via digital download on September 4th, 2009. Barn Door Pictures will self-distribute the film theatrically in association with highbrow entertainment and Cinetic Rights Management has come on board to handle the digital rights, which will be available for digital download on Amazon VOD on September 4th. Drama is written and directed by Jeremy Davidson, produced by Mary Stuart Masterson, and stars Daniel Sauli, Annie Parisse, Lawrence Pressman, Ronald Guttman, Victoria Clark, and Eli Wallach. Film is Davidson's directorial debut. It had its premiere at the 2009 Stony Brook Film Festival, where it received the jury award for best feature.

At the top of the opening night at the 13th RHODE ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL, the Crystal Image Award was presented by RIIFF to composer Klaus Badelt. Klaus has composed scores for Hollywood blockbusters such as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Time Machine, Starship Troopers, Ned Kelly, K-19: The Widowmaker. Poseidon, and many more. Klaus recently signed with the Weinstein Company and is also acknowledged as the composer for the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and recently been working in Macau, China putting the finishing touches on the first-of-its-kind film installation in the world: The Bubble(TM), a 360-degree theater that will serve as the front door to the largest casino in China called "The City of Dreams".

Indian actress and reality television star Shilpa Shetty reacted furiously to allegations she was involved in a film shoot that breached protocol at a Hindu temple.

Acording to tonight.com, authorities at the Sakhigopal temple in Puri last week lodged a police complaint about the Bollywood star and her crew filming inside the sacred building, press reports said.

DOHA announces festival team.

Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) today announced key members of the team that will head up the inaugural 2009 Festival. Amanda Palmer, head of entertainment for Al Jazeera English, has been named DTFF Executive Director. Palmer will lead the Festival and work with a team from Tribeca that includes Geoffrey Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises, to shape the program. Locally the team will include Arab documentary and short films expert Mohamed Maklouf, serving as the festival's Regional Programs Advisor, and award-winning Palestinian filmmaker Scandar Copti serving as Community Outreach Programmer.
