At no more than three minutes long, it can be hair-raising, hip and/or hilarious as long its original (i.e. don’t use clips, dialogue or music from any other sources that you haven’t created yourself).

Golden Globe Nominations.

December 17th 2009 12:48

The Globes Nominations are now out and it will be interesting to see how many of the 10 pictures nominated in the dramatic and musical/comedy categories make it onto the list of 10 at next years Academy Awards(R). Having only seen a handful of the films on offer, I wold have to say that my first pick for Drama would be PRECIOUS although Katherine Bigelow's THE HURT LOCKER could well take it out, while the Box Office favourite THE HANGOVER will be pushing for the comedy award.

Last weekend the Australian Film Industry held their night of nights at the Regent Theatre, Collins Street, Melbourne,Australia. Once again it was as the bookies predicted with no real surprises. Again the winners were SAMSON AND DELILAH which definitley deserves all the accolades it has recieved thus far and will continue to be feted around the world throughout the awards season.

The big problem though seems to be in the acting categories. It seems that unless you head overseas or come here as a visiting guest, you are not in with a chance. Anthony La Paglia and Rachel Griffiths might be great talents, but are we just rewarding them to make sure they make an occassional appearance on our shores. Frances O'Connor is also a great actress, but what about Emily Barclay, Maeve Dermody, Sacher Horler, Marissa Gibson, Sophie Lowe, Ben Mendelsohn and the entire cast of BALIBO. This is the AUSTRALIAN industry awards.

CHAUVEL RETROSPECTIVE!

December 3rd 2009 03:51
Anyone who knows even the slightest little bit about the Australian Film Industry knows that Charles Chauvel is the Patriarch of Australian Cinema. For over 40 years Chauvel continued to make brilliant and amazing films creating a picture of Australia that endures today. The conflict between the country and the city, the ignorance of the plight of our indigenous peoples and the toughness and beauty of the land were continous themes throughout the decades.

If you want to see some of the finest films this country has ever produced, you had better get along to see the Chauvel retrospective on over the final two weekends leading up to Xmas.
