THE CRAZIES trailer.

January 30th 2010 02:28
In a terrifying tale of the American Dream gone wrong, four friends find themselves trapped in their hometown. A reinvention of the George A. Romero classic, THE CRAZIES is directed by Breck Eisner (SAHARA) and is based on a screenplay by Ray Wright (PULSE, CASE 39) and Scott Kosar (THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE).

David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) is sheriff in a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his house after locking his wife and young son in a closet inside. Something is infecting the citizens of Ogden Marsh...with insanity

While the box office for Aussie films is still not great when compared with the money we spend on overseas films. It was good to find an almost 50% rise in box office compared to 2008. With approximately AU$36 million in 2008, an extra AU$18 million in receipts means we are spending more time watching local releases and the filmmakers are puting together better quality content for audiences to watch. Remember, if everyone in Australia saw one Australian film each year that would create a box office of over AU$220 million dollars.

The 418 films screened in Australian cinemas in 2009 grossed $1.09 billion, making last year’s total box office the highest on record. Of those films, 50 were Australian, accounting for $54.8 million or 5.0 per cent of the total, according to Screen Australia analysis of Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia (MPDAA) data. This is the highest number of Australian films to be screened annually in over 25 years and also marks the greatest domestic share since 2001, when a combination of Moulin Rouge, Lantana, The Man Who Sued God and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles took the Australian earnings to $64.4 million (7.8 per cent).

44 INCH CHEST Trailer

January 21st 2010 02:56
What happens when the writers of hard edged British gangster picture Sexy Beast tackle family drama? You get 44 Inch Chest, a story of marital infidelity that takes a decidedly dark and nasty turn. Opening Los Angeles on January 15th and January 29th in New York, Washington D.C. and San Diego, 44 Inch Chest is a film that is not to be missed. Stay tuned for UK and Australian release dates. View the trailer and clips below.

In the style of all things British Gangster, the themes are twisted a little as Ray Winstone and his 'friends' decide to deliver manly justice their own way. Ego can be a dirty word!

With all the hype surrounding Avatar becoming the fifth film to top the Billion dollar mark worldwide, it should be noted that with the cost of tickets continually rising at the cinema complexes, this will soon become not the exception, but the norm.

And while we continue to hail the mainstream films and their filmmakers with directors such as James Cameron continuing to talk up how expensive his films are and how somehow the cost of making the film equates into a fantastic film, lesser known directors continue to make films with as much appeal to the general public as the cash-burners.
