With the contribution of several prolific female screenwriters and editors, including the American Agnes Christine Johnston (The Patsy) and the Belgian Annette Wadement (Le Mepris), this is an opportunity to see the vital and multifarious contribution women have made to film iconography.

Abe Forsythe finally takes TROPFEST.

February 21st 2010 14:22
No wonder we are critics and not stars. Today I attended both Trop Jr and Tropfest and while I was happy with the choices for Trop Jr with only a slight disappointment for one filmmaker, I found it amusing to be discussing Abe Forsythe with another film writer about 90 minutes before he was announced this year’s winner of TROPFEST. Was the award a just a personal social commentary or a good piece of filmmaking.

For those not in the know, last year a huge scandal occurred when a shock jock on morning radio made major headlines around Australia regarding young kids and sex. While not completely at fault, the jock has always pushed things a little further than good taste and was finally brought to task, being axed from his TV slot and suspended from his radio show. Unfortunately, this means that we digress from what was another brilliant night of short film making and everyone at the water cooler will be talking about Abe’s kick up the bum to Sandilands.

FOUR LIONS trailer

February 20th 2010 01:04
Chris Morris' "Four Lions" is a funny, thrilling comedy that illuminates modern jihadism through the prism of farce. It understands jihadists as human beings. And it understands human beings as innately ridiculous. What "This Is Spinal Tap" did for heavy metal and "Dr Strangelove" the Cold War, "Four Lions" does for the modern face of terrorism.
