A Night of Horror International Film Festival 2010

April 4th 2010 08:36
Australia's leading horror film event, A Night of Horror International Film Festival, is just a few weeks away. The festival will terrify audiences from April 15-23 at Dendy, Newtown Cinema and other Sydney venues.

A Night of Horror began in 2006 as an idea for a one night only showcase of locally produced short horror films (hence the festival's name). However, the festival attained so much local and international interest, that it has since expanded to a nine day event that screens 16 of the world's most terrifying, new feature films and over 50 shorts.

Festival director Dr. Dean Bertram is ecstatic with this year's line-up of films: “We always pride ourselves in delivering the best and bloodiest in horror cinema to our audiences, but the 2010 program is easily the festival's strongest and most terrifying yet.”

“The growth of the festival is really indicative of the popularity of the horror genre in this country”, adds festival co-director Lisa Mitchell. “I'm particularly delighted that we are presenting the Sydney premiere of three harrowing Australian feature films at the festival: THE HORSEMAN, DAMNED BY DAWN, and THE DARK LURKING all of which will be followed by Q&As with the filmmakers.”

Jam packed with premieres, filmmaker Q&As, and special events, some other highlights of the 2010 festival include:

The Australian/UK co-production of TRIANGLE. Starring Melissa George, the film is a terror-inducing thrill ride, with an ingeniously twisting plot that leaves the audience as off balanced as the characters on screen.

The unique and multi-award winning, THE REVENANT: a must-see, action packed, and darkly comedic, vampire-zombie-buddy movie from US director D. Kerry Prior.

The beautifully shot, but deeply disturbing, Italian/US co-production, HOUSE OF FLESH MANNEQUINS. A nod to the great Italian horror films of the 70s and 80s, it is to be introduced at the festival by the film's star and producer Domiziano Arcangeli.

The hotly anticipated and white-knuckle inducing THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT: The run-away, American box-office success, and feature debut of Sydney director Peter Cornwell.

A special edge-of-your-seat double bill, featuring the modern horror classic THE DESCENT and the NSW premiere of THE DESCENT: PART 2.
