{press release from AIDC]
The Australian International Documentary Conference will host a Serious Games Summit on Friday February 20th.
The term Serious Games is growing fast, yet what does it actually mean and how will it influence the industry? This year’s AIDC will explore and contemplate this new genre of content and its scope of possibilities.

Emerging around the world, the concept of Serious Games combines game technology and design developed for the purpose of education, training and real life problem solving. Largely popular within areas of education, the environment, social welfare, healthcare, national security and corporate management, the aim is to engage and motivate players outside a purely entertainment driven form.
Serious Games are intended and created for interaction on PC’s and video game platforms.
With new development comes new opportunity and endless possibilities. Serious Games present a fresh area of prospects for content producers to enter; new skills and methods, audiences, markets, developers, industries, and networks. What avenues could Serious Games lead to for filmmakers and the industry alike?
Further more how will this affect collaboration, financing, broadcasting, and how will the industry adapt to accommodate the infrastructure for the production of Serious Games?
Sessions will focus on the potential this new area can offer and the role Serious Games may play in the future. Dr. Michelle Selinger, Head of Education for the Public Sector at Cisco Systems will host a session explaining this new field and examining the market of Serious Games.

The various communication, teamwork and liaison skills, as well as creative capacity needed for games development will be highlighted in Rules of Engagement 1; Creative Cross Fertilisation, followed by a focus on the obstacles involved in the means and methods and of production and financing models in Rules of Engagement 2; Means of Production.
Additionally ABC TV and Screen Australia will host a session showcasing a selection of Serious Games to facilitate the launch of a new commissioning initiative
