AVATAR BREAKS THE $100 MILLION BARRIER IN AUSTRALIA

AVATAR is the highest-grossing film of all time in Australia. Released on 17 December 2009, it had earnt $108,621,853 at the local box office by the end of the first week in March 2010, making it the first film released in Australia to earn over $100 million.
Adjusted for inflation, TITANIC would still be behind. At todays average price the film would have grossed $87,831,677.
It took less than one month to take over from Camerons other epic TITANIC, released almost 12 years to the day,reaching the sinking ship's 58 million in 25 days. AVATAR is now almost double that figure and continues to keep the box office tills turning overhaving grossed $2.7Billion worldwide.
Third on the list is still SHREK 2 with LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING sits at fourh. The only Australian film in the top 10 is the old evergreen CROCODILE DUNDEE with the final 5 spots shared between HARRY POTTER(2), LOTR(2) and THE DARK KNIGHT.

In addition to Avatar, five new titles entered the all-time top 50 in 2009: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince(10), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (11) The Twilight Saga: New Moon (13), Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (40) and Up (44).
There are five Australian films in the list: Crocodile Dundee (5), Australia (15), Babe (18), Happy Feet (33) and Moulin Rouge (47).
