August 14th 2009 15:41
Barn Door Pictures announced the release of their first feature film TICKLING LEO. The film will simultaneously be released in theaters, on DVD and via digital download on September 4th, 2009. Barn Door Pictures will self-distribute the film theatrically in association with highbrow entertainment and Cinetic Rights Management has come on board to handle the digital rights, which will be available for digital download on Amazon VOD on September 4th. Drama is written and directed by Jeremy Davidson, produced by Mary Stuart Masterson, and stars Daniel Sauli, Annie Parisse, Lawrence Pressman, Ronald Guttman, Victoria Clark, and Eli Wallach. Film is Davidson's directorial debut. It had its premiere at the 2009 Stony Brook Film Festival, where it received the jury award for best feature.

Producer Mary Stuart Masterson said, "This project, from development through production, and now through distribution, has been so gratifying. The set was a magical place where everyone felt totally safe to take creative risks with this emotionally raw and delicate material about the toxic nature of silence within a family. It was the ideal first film for Barn Door Pictures for its uniquely strong script combined with its ability to be shot on an ultra low budget without anyone looking over our shoulders."

Set around the days of Yom Kippur, TICKLING LEO is a contemporary drama that follows three generations of one Jewish family whose secrets threaten to destroy its future. When Zak Pikler (Daniel Sauli) and his girlfriend Delphina (Annie Parisse) visit his estranged father for Yom Kippur in the Catskills, they find him suffering from dementia and inadvertently uncover a dark family secret from WWII: an impossible choice Zak's grandfather (Eli Wallach) made in order to join Rudolph Kasztner's controversial freedom train out of Hungary in 1944.

Barn Door Pictures is self-distributing the TICKLING LEO DVD, complete with extras that highlight the true historical events that inspired the film. DVD will be available at www.ticklingleothemovie.net.
The extra feature entitled 'Debating Kasztner's Legacy' includes an interview with Ladislaus Löb, a passenger on the Kasztner Train, and author of the book DEALING WITH SATAN: REZSO KASZTNER'S DARING RECUE MISSION. Extra will also feature an interview with Holocaust scholar and historian Michael Ezra, author of an upcoming book detailing how the history of the Kasztner Affair has been portrayed.
