BEV Retrospective - Blonde Crazy!
February 25th 2010 03:06
The blonde may owe a debt to the French chemist Eugéne Schuller who invented the hair bleaching process in 1909, but, as actresses, their talent is all their own. With the contribution of several prolific female screenwriters and editors, including the American Agnes Christine Johnston (The Patsy) and the Belgian Annette Wadement (Le Mepris), this is an opportunity to see the vital and multifarious contribution women have made to film iconography.
Blonde Crazy Season - BFI Southbank, 1 - 17 March
From silent stars such as sassy-dame Phyllis Haver and cute comedienne Marion Davies to ice queen Kim Novak and sex-bomb Marilyn Monroe – this programme certainly illustrates the range of iconic blondes throughout film history.

The creative innovation of first-ever feature animation director Lotte Reiniger is doubled as British Composer Award winner Mira Calix premieres her new live musical accompaniment.
The first feature length animation ever made directed by Lotte Reineger in 1926 is a beautiful and creatively narrated fairytale inspired by The Arabian Nights. A young prince embarks on a series of great adventures. The beautiful princess, in need of saving, isn’t far away. Adding another level to Reineger’s creative innovation, cutting-edge composer Mira Calix premieres her new musical accompaniment for this silent animation live at the BFI.
