BLESSED world premiere at MIFF
July 21st 2009 03:43
Acclaimed actresses Frances O’Connor, Miranda Otto, Deborra-lee Furness and Victoria Haralabidou will gather on the red carpet for the gala world premiere of Blessed, the powerful new film by award-winning director Ana Kokkinos.
Blessed will world premiere on Saturday 25 July at the Melbourne International Film Festival ahead of it national cinema release on 10 September through Icon Film Distribution.
Written by Andrew Bovell (Lantana), Melissa Reeves, Patricia Cornelius and Christos Tsiolkas (The Slap, Loaded), Blessed was produced by Al Clark (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) and directed by AFI Award winning director Ana Kokkinos (Head On).
Blessed is a story about mothers and children, about being lost and finding your way home. Seven children from five different families wander the streets in urban odyssey through a day and a night. As the children move deeper into peril, they make choices that will affect the rest of their lives. Dawn breaks and it’s the same day, but now we follow the mothers as they struggle to keep their kids safe. Blessed is a beautiful and intensely moving film about the life force that connects us all.
“Our four lead actresses deliver extraordinary performances. It’s a thrill for us to bring them together for the world premiere and to share the film with our home town audience in Melbourne,” said director Ana Kokkinos.
The four actresses lead an outstanding ensemble cast which includes William McInnes (Unfinished Sky), Monica Maughan (AFI Best Actress winner for The Damnation of Harvey McHugh), Wayne Blair (Mullett, Wildside, All Saints), Tasma Walton (Blue Heelers), Sophie Lowe (Beautiful Kate), Eamon Farren (The Pacific, Kriv Stenders' Home, All Saints), Harrison Gilbertson (Australian Rules, Accidents Happen), Eva Lazzaro (Underbelly, Jindabyne, Tangle), Reef Ireland (Tangle) and standout newcomer Anastasia Baboussouras.
Blessed is a Screen Australia and Wildheart Zizani production in association with Film Victoria, The Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund and Head Gear Films.
The World Premiere has already sold out with only a limited number of tickets available for the 7pm screening on August 6th.
