May 12th 2010 04:21
In the past five decades, North America’s oldest competitive film festival has welcomed some of the boldest new filmmakers in the world—now it’s your turn! Submissions are now open for the 46th Chicago International Film Festival, October 7 – 21, 2010.
The Festival accepts entries in the following categories:
• Narrative Features
• Feature-Length Documentaries
• Documentary Short Films
• Narrative Short Films
• Student Films
The deadline for submissions is a postmark date of June 25, 2010.
The Chicago International Film Festival is a celebration of the best new cinema from around the world. The two-week event presents approximately 150 feature, documentary, and short films making their regional, national, or world premieres in front of an enthusiastic audience in Chicago. Submissions range from first-time directors to seasoned veterans, and the program of films represents the spirit of discovery on which the Festival is founded.
In 2009 the Gold Hugo, the Festival’s top honor in the International Feature Film Competition, went to Tina Mabry for her feature film debut, Mississippi Damned (USA). Other winning films came from Italy, the UK, Uruguay, Switzerland, Mexico, Russia, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, France, and Cuba.
The Chicago International Film Festival’s four competitive sections—the International Feature Film Competition, New Directors Competition, Docufest, and Short Film Competition—are presided over by juries made up of renowned filmmakers, actors, critics, and industry professionals from around the world. Highlight programs showcase the diverse and extraordinary breadth of new filmmaking—including Black Perspectives, centered on the African-American and African diaspora experience; Cinema of the Americas, representing film cultures from Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean; ReelWomen, concentrating on female filmmakers; and OUTrageous, spotlighting diverse perspectives on sexuality.
