Following his DEER HUNTER Oscar triumph, Cimano was handed a lucrative contract for this project – his own fictionalized screenplay on the historical Johnson County Wars in 1890’s Wyoming - an the coveted “final cut”. Visually remarkable, his anti-western sees Sheriff James Averill(Kris Kristofferson) attempt to protect immigrant farmers from wealthy cattle interests, and also clash with a hired gun (Christopher Walken) over a woman they both love (Isabelle Huppert).
