CRUSH opens with highest screen average
May 5th 2009 17:14
CRUSH opened successfully taking $13,051 at box office during its exclusive, one-week preview season at Piccadilly Cinema in Perth.
"I'm really pleased with how well the Preview Release of Crush performed over the week at the Piccadilly Cinemas in Perth, particularly the fact that we easily beat every other film's screen average in Australia, including major Studio films, to reach the number one screen average. Feedback on the film has been fabulous and we have received dozens of emails from Crush fans asking when the film will be released in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. In other good news I can confirm that Crush has been picked up for DVD and Blu-Ray release by Paramount Home Entertainment in association with Horizon One, with October being the launch date." says Writer/Director, John Soto.
Piccadilly Cinema, who have stood behind CRUSH from the beginning, are equally delighted with the successful box office outcome.
"We have been very impressed with CRUSH'S daily box office performance and the growing audience numbers at the sessions. It's been one of the highest grossing films at our cinemas this week and to take $13,051 over the week is indicative of CRUSH'S audience appeal," says Piccadilly Theatre Manager, Kevin Allman.
Fans are also embracing the film, with comments on the film's MySpace and online sites flooding in daily - "The best thriller / horror to come out of Perth...Western Australia...Come on (Aussie), come on, come on....go see it!"
Filmed in Perth, CRUSH stars Chris Egan (from the new NBC series KINGS, Eragon, Resident Evil 3 - Extinction, Virgin Territory, Home & Away), Emma Lung (The Jammed Triangle, The Boys are Back, House of Wax, Entourage: 2008), Brooke Harman (Till Human Voices Wake Us, The Secret Life of Us, Ned Kelly) and Jenna Lind (Underbelly).
CRUSH could be best described as a teen 'Fatal Attraction' meets 'The Haunting.' Combine this with the lure of former 'Home and Away' star, Chris Egan, whose has a new television series on NBC in the US (KINGS) and AFI award nominee Emma Lung and you'll start to understand why CRUSH is one of the most anticipated teen films this season.
Created, written and directed by John Soto and Jeff Gerritsen, with Deidre Kitcher as producer, CRUSH plans to have a national theatrical release by co-distributers' Filmscope Entertainment and Odin's Eye Entertainment in the second half of 2009.
The film is rated M and has a running time of approximately 85mins. A full review will be posted soon...
