Summer’s must-see festival springs up again!
It’s that time of year again! Aspiring filmmakers and keen film lovers get ready to cosy up under the stars on Sunday 22 February 2009, as the world’s largest short film festival Movie Extra Tropfest unravels Australian film talent right before your eyes.
In its 17th year, Tropfest promises to be an even bigger and better experience for both festival goers and viewers by delivering an exciting afternoon of entertainment, MC’s music and a live broadcast which will bring the excitement of the festival into homes nationwide.
Before the screening of the sixteen finalists’ films, festival goers can expect to be wowed by the anticipated glitz and glamour of Tropfest’s celebrity judges and VIP guests as they arrive on the famed red carpet ,providing the perfect prelude for an evening of entertainment and excitement in the lead up to the 2009 Movie Extra Tropfest winner being announced.
Movie Extra Tropfest is a free, public event screened nationally via simultaneous satellite broadcast in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and a host of regional Australian locations. 2009 marks the first live and national TV broadcast of the festival, via the Movie Extra Channel bringing the filmmaker’s films and the atmosphere of the festival direct to homes, bars and clubs across the nation, reaching a potential audience of over 1 million Foxtel and Austar subscribers, as well as the anticipated live audience on festival night of 150,000.
Entries are now open and budding filmmakers are being encouraged to get in quick! This year’s Tropfest Signature Item (TSI), SPRING. Filmmakers are able to interpret the TSI at their own discretion, but films must be no longer than seven minutes in length. Entries close on Friday 15 January 2009.
