"Los que se Quedan", wins the First Prize of the Jury for Original Full-length Film


• The First Prize of the Jury for Best Original Documentary Short Film has been awarded to the film La Chirola, the Cuban-Bolivian co-production by Diego Antonio Mondaca.


• En Enero, Quizás by Diogo Costa Amarante has received the First Prize of the Jury in the Full-length Film category of the National Competition, in which the film Anas: an Indian Film by Enric Miró was also awarded, along with the short films Triste Borracha, by Chema Rodríguez and Hombres de Sal, by Manuel Jiménez Núñez.

• Fixer: the taking of Ajmal Naqshbandi by Ian Olds has won the First Prize in the Reporting Category; Second Prize has been given to Chema Rodríguez, who took away two awards, with Coyote.

This week, the general director of Cultural Activities in the Department of the Arts, Manuel Lagos, along with the director of the International Documentary Festival of Madrid Documenta Madrid, Antonio Delgado, have announced the winners of the sixth festival. Then, an assessment of this year's competition was given, showing the most diverse offerings in international documentary film that were brought together in Madrid between May 1 to 10.

The documentary Los que se Quedan by the Mexican director Juan Carlos Rulfo and the French-Chinese film L'Argent du Charbon by Wang Bing have been awarded the First and Second Prizes of the Jury for Original Full-length Documentary Films, worth 10,000 Euros and 5,000 Euros respectively. In this same category, a diploma for the Honorable Mention of the Jury Award has been given to the film Goodbye, How Are You directed by Boris Mitic and the Audience Award, worth 3,000 Euros, which will earn the possibility of being distributed in Spain as part of the "Documentary of the Month" program, has gone to the Spanish film La Ciudad de los Signos, by Samuel Alarcón.


In addition, La Chirola by the Bolivian filmmaker Diego Antonio Mondaca has received the First Prize of the Jury in the Original Short Documentary Section, worth 5,000 Euros, as well as the Audience Award, worth 3,000 Euros. The Second Prize, worth 3,000 Euros, has been granted to the Polish film My Mum, Dad, God and Satan by Pawel Józwiak-Rodan. The diploma for the Honorable Mention of the Jury has been given to the documentary Home Away from Home by Marika Väisänen.

As part fo the Reporting Competition, the First Prize of the Jury worth 10,000 Euros has gone to Fixer: the Taking of Ajmal Naqshbandi by the American director Ian Olds, and the Second Prize in the Reporting Competition, worth 5,000 Euros has been won by Chema Rodríguez for Coyote. In this same category, the Honorable Mention of the Jury has granted its diploma to the Iranian documentary Porove Akhar by Reza Haeri and the Audience Award, worth 3,000 Euros has gone to Yoav Shamir for the American-Danish-Israeli production Defamation.

Lastly in the National Competition, Diogo Costa Amarante has won the First Prize of the Jury for Full-length Film worth 8,000 Euros with his film En enero, Quizás. This same director received the festival award for the second consecutive year, after winning last year's award in the category of short film. The Audience Award of this section worth 2,000 Euros has gone to the Spanish-Uruguayan production Palacio by Luis Alaejos and Raúl Diez Alaejos.

This time, the Jury of the National Competition of Short Films has given the First Prize worth 4,000 Euros to Triste Borracha, by the director Chema Rodríguez, the only director to have been selected in two Competitive Sections and victorious in both. The Second Prize, worth 3,000 Euros has gone to the Spanish film Hombres de sal by Manuel Jiménez. In this category, the Audience Award worth 2,000 Euros has been granted to La Esquina del Tiempo by Carla Alonso Fernández de Avilés.

The Avid Award for Best Editing, to be give Avid Xpress Pro software or equivalent, has been given to the Spanish-Argentinean co-production Soledad by Ricardo Íscar. Lastly, the Filmotech Award worth 3,000 Euros, has gone ex aequo to Yongheng by Miguel Ángel Rollad and ex aequo Desplazados by Josep Lluís Penadés Boada.

DOCUMENTA MADRID will present the rules and regulations for participating in the 2010 festival, to be held from May 7th to 16th, at the Cannes Film Festival.
