The Doha Tribeca Film Festival has announced that the first Festival will be launched in Doha, Qatar October 29 – November 1, 2009. Through extensive collaboration between the Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) and the Qatar Museums Authority (QMA), the Doha Tribeca Film Festival will showcase the best of the local Qatari community as well as the broader Arab culture. The festival will welcome the community, diverse audiences and the global filmmaking industry with a highly curated program as well as family friendly events that will help to build, inspire and infuse film focused educational initiatives in Qatar.
Over the long-term, The Doha Tribeca Film Festival will serve to foster, support and motivate new filmmakers and provide a platform for future year-round educational and mentoring film activities and investment in Qatar.
The Doha Tribeca Film Festival was formed through a cultural partnership by Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and the Tribeca Film Festival Founders, Jane Rosenthal, Craig Hatkoff, and Robert De Niro. The Festival was announced in November of 2008 and the first edition will be hosted at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar.
Details on the program will be announced in the Summer and Fall of 2009.

The Film Program
The feature film program will be comprised of approximately 40 films and be divided into Competitive and Non-Competitive Sections. The films will be competing for awards and prizes.
The Festival will also include a selection of short films.
Competitive Sections
Narrative and documentary films in the World Narrative and World Documentary categories respectively will be awarded prizes by a jury including Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Actor and Best Actress.
Non-Competitive SectionsA showcase of films from the Middle East and around the world will complete the Festival program.
Middle Eastern Showcase
A section of films from the Middle East. This section will honor a winner through an Audience Award, voted on by the Festival’s attendees.
Premieres
Major studio premieres will comprise opening night and closing night. These films will be geared to the greater Qatari community.
Family Festival/International Showcase
A collection of films from around the world – some targeted to families and other towards the general film-going audience.
The Doha Conversations
The Doha Tribeca Film Festival will create once in a lifetime opportunities for thought-provoking discussions between icons of world culture and the Festival’s local and global audience.
The Family & Sports Festival
The Film Festival will host a Family and Sports Festival at Al Bidda Park with family entertainment, sports demonstrations and interactive games.
