June 16th 2009 08:00
The Edinburgh Film Festival which was born alongside the Edionburgh Festival in 1947 is one of the world's oldest festivals.
The festival honours both local and international filmmakers. Last years winners include LET THE RIGHT ONE IN by Tomas Alfredsson, MAN ON WIRE by James Marsh and SOMERSTOWN for best new British Film directed by Shane Meadows and ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD by Werner Herzog.
Lars Von Triers latest work ANTICHRIST is sure to be controversial with critics already divided, but you wouldnt expect anything less fromsuch an accomplished director.
This years line up includes a retropsective on Roger Corman screening classics THE WILD ANGELS and BLOODY MAMA starring Shelley Winters.
HOUSE OF USHER featuring the irrepressible Vincent Price will be included in the special screening sessions
MY YEAR WITHOUT SEX from acclaimed director Sarah Watts who's only previous film LOOK BOTH WAYS recieved rave reviews throughout the globe and VAN DIEMANS LAND both screened to sell out audiences at the recent Sydney Film Festival.
The festival will be screening at Cameo Theatre, CineWorld Fountain Park, Dovecot, Filmhouse, Pleasance and Traverse Theatres and the Royal Lyceum Thetre in the heart of Edinburgh. The locals will be more than happy to give you directions for those of you who are unfamiliar with the trappings of Edinburgh and will surely know a good Inn or Pub to settle into either before or after your film screening.
