Film Festival for Youngsters Returns Bigger and Better in 2010

TRANSLINK Cine Sparks, Australia's foremost film festival for young people will return in 2010 with more free film screenings and activities for children and their families than ever before.
Running from Tuesday 27 July to Friday 6 August, TransLink Cine Sparks, which forms part of Queensland’s premier screen culture event – the St.George Bank Brisbane International Film Festival – will present a diverse programme of short, feature and documentary films designed to inspire, educate and entertain young minds.
For the first time, the festival will start in style with an Opening Night Gala Screening of Dear Lemon Lima at The Edge (State Library of Queensland) including a special Q&A session with American director Suzi Yoonessi.
TransLink Cine Sparks will offer 15 free films for school groups to choose from, with five titles also screening during special evening sessions as part of the Sparks After Dark programme for the young and young at heart.
The film screenings – popular with both film and language students – will be complemented by Masterclasses with Griffith Film School, which will delve into film production, animation and design.
Families will also be part of the TransLink Cine Sparks experience with the inaugural Family Film Fiesta, presented by Brisbane City Council, on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August.
The Family Film Fiesta will span both sides of the Brisbane River. GoMA will screen seven family films free of charge as well as animations and European titles. Across the River, the Queen Street Mall and King George Square will come alive with short films, free film workshops, demonstrations and entertainment.
A highlight of the City programme will be a screening in King George Square at 6.30pm on Saturday 31 July of Ponyo, a charming animation from Academy Award winning director, Hayao Mizazaki, feauring the voices of Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Liam Neeson and Tina Fey.
