FILMINK AWARDS 2008
March 13th 2008 06:43
Last night members of the Australian Film Industry turned out for an awards ceremony with a difference. The State Theatre played host to the annual FILMINK Awards where surprisely very few of those nominated were available to collect thier coverted awards.
Hosted by Brendan Cowell (Love my Way, Noise), while the evening didnt follow the profesional approach by more serious ceremonies the likes of the Oscars or the AFI's, the evening turned out to be quite the success. With a tongue in cheek impersonation of the new Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd one of the highlights of the evnings entertainment and Paul Mac and Bertie Blackman performing for the near capacity audience towards the end of the evening, the FILMINK Awards continues to grow and improve each year
Colin Friels, who was presented with the Peter Finch Lifetime Achievement Award, was as usual extremely graceful in accepting his plaque thanking all those who have worked alongside him over the years with a special thanks to the presenter David Field who has been a longtime friend both on and off screen for many years
Those attending the evening commented on how the evening had improved on previous years and were already looking towards next years ceremony as they boarded the courtesy coaches and headed off for a night of celebration at The Argyle, an upmarket hotel situated in the historic Rocks area of Sydney.
