FIRST FEATURE at MetroScreen.

October 22nd 2008 11:44
FIRST FEATURE with NASH EDGERTON mapping the journey from shorts to full length

Metro Screen Network¹s FIRST FEATURE examines the leap from making short films to feature length productions, with Australia¹s fresh filmmaking talent.

Many short filmmakers aspire to tell their stories in feature length, but the path from shorts to first feature can be difficult, with only a handful achieving this goal.

FIRST FEATURE on November 18 aims to provide inspiring, practical advice you can use.

Held in Metro Screen¹s Studio 1, Nash Edgerton will discuss his career path, his filmmaking process, how his shorts assisted him, and how he was able to direct his first feature length film and secure a cinema release.

Nash will also screen several of his early shorts, including those that helped define his career including his first short film ŒBloodlock¹.

³FIRST FEATURE was conceived to show filmmakers that going from short films to features is achievable and not some unreachable dream² says Michael Chrisoulakis, Metro Screen Network Coordinator.

Nash Edgerton is a filmmaker who knows his craft from both sides of the camera from his work as an actor, stunt performer, editor, producer, writer, and director. Since his short DEADLINE, which took out the top prize at Tropfest in 1997, Nash has directed a number of award-winning short films and music videos for some of Australia¹s most popular musicians including Missy Higgins, Ben Lee, Eskimo Joe and The Sleepy Jackson. His most recent
short SPIDER has so far played at over 35 film festivals around the world and won 14 awards. FIRST FEATURE will chart Nash¹s journey from short films to the recent cinema release of ŒThe Square¹.

Producer on The Square Louise Smith states, ³The thing that amazed me that first time, and for every other short film Nash has ever directed, is that audiences love them, LOVE THEM! They¹re completely entertained by them and completely surprised by themŠ.Nash has an ability to direct performances and action and ultimately just make a really entertaining film.²
