Catch the short film fever this Summer at Flickerfest 19th International Short Film Festival at Bondi Beach

It's that time of the year when all things flicker are going full steam.

The sun's shining, the sand is packed, the shark alarm has just gone off and the film prints are pouring in, heralding the imminent arrival of Flickerfest 2010 and the hottest shorts on the beach.Catch the short film fever! Flickerfest, Sydney’s unique outdoor summer film festival, has received an impressive record-breaking 1600 entries for 2010.

“We are thrilled with the response this year and have been overwhelmed with a record of over 1500 entries received from around the globe, Flickerfest continues to attract the latest in cutting edge and award-winning shorts from the world’s most exciting new filmmakers”, said Festival Director, Bronwyn Kidd. “This guarantees that the festival presents our Australian audiences with a short film competition amongst the best in the world.”

The competitive programs will be joined by a number of special programs and forums, including the Australian premiere of Stories On Human Rights, a moving and thought-provoking series of 22 short films commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by Award-winning filmmakers from across the world.

Just a reminder that Flickerfest is Australia’s only Academy® Award accredited short film festival with a programme that offers competitive categories of International, Australian and Documentary. 45 Australian films, 39 International films and 13 documentaries have been chosen for competition with the majority of the films screening as World Premieres and Australian Premieres. The total of 97 films in competition are all vying for key prizes, whichinclude the Coopers Award for Best Film and the Yoram Gross Award for Best Animation both of which are Academy ®Accredited.

In 2010 Flickerfest also presents Oscar Shorts, a celebration of some of the best Oscar-nominated short films from around the world, in recognition of Flickerfest’s Academy® accreditation status.

Music in films will get a look in, with Short Beats – phat, funky and fired-up short films with a musical beat, made for dancing! The festival will also present Flicker Kids, tons of fun on the silver screen for kids of all ages.

Other prestigious awards include the SAE Award For Best Digital Production, Movie EXTRA Special Jury Prize, National Geographic Award for Best Documentary and a new award, The Madman Award for Best Australian Short FilmApart from the films in competition, Flickerfest also has some fabulous special short film showcases, Stories On Human Rights - celebrating 60 years of the UN declaration, Oscar Shorts, in recognition of Flickerfest’s Oscar status, Short Beats- fired up, phat and funky films with a musical beat and Flickerkids, shorts for shorties.

Flickerfest Goes Green by making substantial steps to reduce their carbon footprint this year and make our festival more sustainable, from printing on recycled paper, to our wonderful organic beverages on offer from Phoenix Organic Juices and Charlie's Water, Rosnay Organic Wines and Eco Farms and long term partners Coopers beer (GREEN LABEL- my first choice) and Jameson whiskey.

Lets hope that you enjoy the new green Flickerfest and that you can help to make the
festival a wonderful eco success through catching the bus or riding your bike down
to the Pavilion. Or if you arent that far why not walk!
