FLICKERFEST INT’L FILM FESTIVAL
9TH – 18TH January 2009
Touring Nationally January to March
Flickerfest, Australia's only Academy Award accredited short film festival is set to return to Sydney this summer for the 18th year and is now accepting entries for the furst major shorts festival of 2009.
Screening at the Bondi Pavillion, the festival has become one of the major events on the local Arts scene with entries coming from all parts of the globe competing in three separate competitions – International, Australian and Documentary as well as a number of separate special events and film fourms throughout the 10 day festival.
An international jury as yet to be announced will once again be awarded prizes for
Best International Film, Best Australian Film, Best Animation, Best Documentary and Best Cinematography as well as a number of other industry prizes at the closing night awards ceremony and gala on January 18 upstairs in what has to be one of the most laid back ceremonies for such a prestigious festival.
Open to any production available for screening on 35mm or Betacam if submitting for the Australian and Documentary sections, all films must be completed within the last two years, be no longer than 30 minutes. The only other requirement is that each film be in English or have English subtitles. Preference to films in previous years has been given to Sydney or Australian premieres in an effort to open up the possibilities for emerging artists to have their works screened to an ever increasing audience.
With the mounting availability of downloads on the net, organisers have now concluded that favourable opinion will also be given to those that have not yet been made available to download on the net in keeping with the festival consensus in an effort to keep things fresh and appealing.
Last minute entrants can find entry forms available on the official website www.flickerfest.com.au with the entry deadline now extended to Friday the 19th pf September for International entrants and while Australian entries only have until this Friday September 12 to finalise their endeavours.
