An initiative of the UK's National Theatre, NT Live is coming soon to the Chauvel! Launching with the highly-anticipated production of PHÈDRE, this is a unique opportunity to enjoy live shows direct from South Bank, London!
Oscar winner Helen Mirren stars in the title role of Phèdre in a dramatic tragedy written by Jean Racine, directed by Tony Award winning director Nicholas Hytner (The History Boys).
First performed in 1677 and updated in 2000 by poet laureate Ted Hughes, PHÈDRE draws its inspiration from Greek mythology. Consumed by an uncontrollable passion for her young stepson and believing her husband, Theseus, to be dead, Phedre confesses her darkest desires and enters the world of nightmare. When Theseus returns alive and well, Phedre, fearing exposure, accuses her stepson of rape. The result is nothing short of carnage
PHÈDRE will be performed live in London and captured LIVE for Chauvel audience. Please note, season is limited to two performances only - don't miss out!
