Italian Films at Toronto FF.

Seven Italian films and another four Italian co-productions: this strong presence at the Toronto International Film Festival 2010 confirms its status as one of the most important showcases for Italian cinema.
Stefano Pasetto’s Il richiamo (The Call) will have its world premiere in Tiff’s Discovery section, dedicated to the most interesting young international talents.
A number of films roll in straight from the Venice Film Festival: Malavoglia (The House by the Medlar Tree) by Pasquale Scimeca, Gorbacióf - il cassiere col vizio del gioco (Gorbacióf – The Cashier who Liked Gambling)by Stefano Incerti and Passione by John Turturro all in the prestigious Special Presentation section. La solitudine dei numeri primi (The Solitude of Prime Numbers) by Saverio Costanzo, based on Paolo Giordano’s eponymous novel, will show in Contemporary World Cinema.
In the Vision section, Michelangelo Frammartino’s intensely lyrical Le quattro volte (The four times) continues a successful International run that began to high praise last May in Cannes. Rounding out the picture is Il finish delle figure, the latest work by northern Italian artist Paolo Gioli, in Wavelengths, the section collecting experimental cinema.
Once again, the features in the Tiff program reflect the full range of heterogeneous approaches and authorial perspectives characteristic of Italian cinema.
Another film to reach Toronto via Venice is Barney’s Version, based on the Novel by Mordecai Richler, a coproduction between Cananda’s Serendipity Point Films and Italy-based Fandango.
Other Italian coproductions in the Tiff program are Outside the Law by Rachid Bouchareb, Route Irish by Ken Loach and Neds by Peter Mullan.
The Italian presence at the Toronto International Film Festival is coordinated by the Italian Trade Commission Toronto and Cinecittà Luce.
