Latin American Film Festival Call for entries.
April 10th 2010 08:00
Sydney’s Latin American Film Festival is preparing for its 5th annual event and is inviting local filmmakers to contribute short films, documentaries or features for the Festival, which will take place 1 – 19 September 2010 in Sydney.
As part of an extensive film program of international features, documentaries and shorts, the Festival is also committed to featuring Australian and Latin filmmakers living in Australia and creating a space for the exhibition and celebration of films that relate to Latin America or to Latin American communities here in Australia.
“The festival has gone from strength to strength, and this year we will be once again featuring Australian-based films in a local filmmakers’ session and present the prestigious Local Filmmaker Audience Award and accompanying prize. Last year’s $3000 prize was awarded to local filmmaker Alvaro Ruiz for his powerful short film Amanecer. There are many Spanish and Portuguese speaking communities living outside of Latin America and we think it’s important that films that relate to these communities be included in the Festival', said Organising Committee Member Chris Johns
As a not-for-profit community organisation, proceeds from the Festival are directed back into Latin American community organizations through their Community Support Program.
Submissions can be made until 30 April 2010 using the online submission system on the festival website. All instructions and forms are available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Last year the Festival presented documentaries and features from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela. In 2010 the Festival will once again feature surprise international guests and an exciting film festival program of films never seen before in Sydney.
'Our Festival tries to present films that speak with different voices from the region, that highlight critical issues and ones that challenge the mainstream view', added Organising Committee Member Mark Taylor.
