Movie News Australia
Carnival time for Wolverine star Hugh Jackman.
Federal Park in the inner western suburb of Glebe was temporarily transformed into an amusement park with a Ferris Wheel, and side show alleys set up for what looks like a flashback scene for the new X-men spin off WOLVERINE. Jackman sporting his Wolverine mutton chops wandered the set with his wife Deborah-Lee Furness but did not pull out his trademark metal claws for by-standers. Extras were spotted sporting afros, long sideburns and flares during the one night film shoot last Friday February 29.
More than 1200 extras are set to take part in the filming around Sydney over the next few weeks.
The following evening Jackman hosted a party for cast and crew at an undisclosed Kings Cross hotspot with Aussie Alisters Nash and Joel Edgerton and Baz Lurhmann in attendance.
Jackmans production company SEED has joined with 20th Century Fox on the film which recently finished shooting in New Zealand and will move on to New Orleans in the US when filming is completed in Australia.
The film is set to be released early to mid 2009.

Catherine Zeta Jones no sex symbol?
Catherine Zeta Jones has put her status as a sex symbol on the shelf stating that she is no longer the young ingénue from past films after her first on screen role as a mother in the upcoming DEATH DEFYING ACTS starring opposite Australia’s Guy Pearce. Zeta Jones plays the a psychic who tries to Hustle Harry Houdini (Pearce) in this re imagining of the famous musicians life but somehow there seems to be no escaping the smouldering looks that have captivated male audiences since her early days in BBC series THE DARLING BUDS OF MAY well over a decade ago. Having played opposite many of Hollywoods leading men including the likes of George Clooney and Brad Pitt and of course Michael Douglas her now husband and father of their two children 7 year old Dylan and 4 year old Carys, Zeta- Jones continues to dazzle on the silver screen at the ripe old age of 38. If icons the likes of Kylie and Madonna are still impressive on the music scene as they approach their 40th and 50th respectively, there is little doubt that Catherine will be the apple of many a male moviegoers eye for many more years to come.
Death Defying Acts, directed by Gillian Armstrong ( Little Women, etcetc) is set in 1926 when Houdini was at his peak as an escapoligist and magician. Filmed in Edinburgh, Scotland the three breathe a new lease of life into the story of Houdini and his relationship with this pretender who did what she had to do.
“She was a survivor and all of a sudden whilst doing that she has a relationship with this rock star of his time that she didn’t want to’” insisted Zeta-Jones in a recent interview for the Sunday Telegraph. “I didn’t want her to be a bitch of a character. You have to sympathise with her struggles of the time and to keep a roof over her heads and survive”
Catherine will be attending the celebrity Premiere in Sydney on March 10. The film opens nationally on March 13.
