Loose Cannons at Tribeca!

Ferzan Ozpetek’s new film Loose Cannons will have its North American Premiere in Competition at Tribeca, after winning audiences and critics over at the Berlin Film Festival. A Fandango (Gomorrah, The Consequences of Love, The Last Kiss) production with international sales being handled by Fandango Portobello Sales (Gomorrah, Mid-August Lunch), Ozpetek’s (Facing Windows, His Secret Love) quirky, warm hearted comedy stars Riccardo Scamarcio.
Ferzan Ozpetek will attend the festival and will be available for interviews from April 25th to April 29th

Loose Cannons is Turkish-born Italian director Ferzan Ozpetek’s study of contemporary Italian life, returning to themes the audiences of his films FacingWindows and His Secret Love will find familiar. In this warm and moving comedy, Ozpetek follows the struggle for independence of a young man from a traditional Italian family whose choices run into conflict with his family’s values.
Tommaso (Scamarcio) has come to his home town in Southern Italy for an important family dinner at which his father plans to hand over the management of the pasta factory to him and his brother Antonio. Determined to assert his own personal choices, Tommaso plans to make an announcement during the dinner. But that evening, just as he begins to say “Silence please”, he is upstaged by his brother who, to everyone’s surprise and not least Tommaso’s, reveals his own secret. Now he is forced to keep his secret to himself but a surprise visit from his friends forces it to the surface.?

About the director
Born in Istanbul in 1959, Ferzan Ozpetek moved to Italy in 1976. ? His debut as director came in 1996 with Hamam (The Turkish Bath,Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, Cannes 1996). In 1999, he produced his second film Harem Suare, about the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Le fate ignoranti (His Secret Love), 2001, was in competition at the Berlin Film Festival and a box office hit in Italy. It won four Silver Ribbon and three Italian Golden Globe awards, as well the award for Best Film at the New York Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
In 2003, La finestra di fronte (Facing Windows), was enormously successful both in Italy and abroad and was awarded one David di Donatello 2003, four Ciak d’Oro and three Italian Golden Globes, as well as three awards at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (film, director and best actress) and two awards at the Seattle Film Festival.?In 2005, Cuore Sacro (Sacred Heart) won him two David Donatello awards and a best director Italian Golden Globe. This was followed by ?Saturno Contro (Saturn in Opposition) which was a big hit with the public and was shown at the Karlovy Vary Festival. His last film Un Giorno Perfetto (A Perfect Day) premiered in competition at Venice in 2008. ?
In December 2008, Ferzan Ozpetek was one of the few Italian directors to be honored with a retrospective by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
