MAX TROPSCORE RETURNS IN 2010

October 19th 2009 03:57
Are you the next Hans Zimmer or Henry Mancini? Could you rival the talent of Nick Cave or Josh Pyke? Do you have what it takes to be the next big thing in film scoring? Then don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your craft.

Movie Extra Tropfest and MAX are thrilled to announce today the return of MAX TROPSCORE

for its second year. This national competition celebrates the union of music and film and
provides a creative platform for musicians and composers.

Music plays an integral role in the art of filmmaking, and the power of the score cannot be
underestimated. The role of MAX TROPSCORE is to acknowledge and reward the contribution musicians make to film.

Following on from the hugely successful inaugural year in which hundreds of musicians
entered and saw Sydney-based artist Pluto Goneski win, MAX TROPSCORE will without a
doubt be bigger and better in 2010. This incredible competition is open to experienced and
amateur musicians, composers, bands and artists of all ages, with the extraordinary
opportunity to be able to showcase their talent in front of key industry figures and the
general public.

“Music has played a vital role in film for over 100 years. From its early days of live scores
accompanying silent films, long before the introduction of dialogue in film, music has played
a key part in enhancing the fimmakers’ story,” said John Polson, Director and Founder of

Tropfest. “This category elevates the importance of music in film and more importantly
creates a space for up and coming talent to showcase their work. I was thrilled to launch
MAX TROPSCORE last year and I look forward to seeing (and hearing) this year’s entries.”

“The tremendous success of 2009’s MAX TROPSCORE confirmed the need for an initiative of
this kind,” said Shaun James, General Manager, XYZnetworks Music Channels. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to profile established and emerging musicians, while offering another
outlet for them to get their work heard by the film and music industries. MAX is a great
supporter of musicians and believes in the importance of recognising their significant
contribution to film. We’re excited to be on board with Movie Extra Tropfest for another year
and look forward to uncovering some great talent.”

MAX TROPSCORE entrants must create an original musical score or synch for a three minute
short film that has been produced by Sam Curtain, a young, up and coming Australian director. The competition is open from Thursday 8 October 2009 until Thursday 14 January
2010.

The winner of MAX TROPSCORE 2010 will have the opportunity to: perform their score at
Movie Extra Tropfest 2010, perform live on MAX, and have their composition included on the
2010 Movie Extra Tropfest Finalist DVD in The Sydney Morning Herald. They will also win a
Gibson prize package, a one year membership for the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, plus more fantastic prizes to come. Conditions apply.

To be a part of MAX TROPSCORE 2010, register your entry online at
www.maxtv.com.au/tropscore and supply your completed score or synch compiled with the vision on DVD to Movie Extra Tropfest by Thursday 14 January 2010. The winner will be revealed at Movie Extra Tropfest on Sunday 21 February 2010.

Full terms and conditions are available on the website.

MAX TROPSCORE is produced by Movie Extra Tropfest in association with principal partner
MAX. The competition is supported by Street Press Australia and Gibson.
