Britt Festivals and AIFF Present "Movie Nights at Britt"
Four Films Under the Stars at the Acclaimed Outdoor Music Venue
The ashland independent film festival and Britt Festivals collaborate this summer to present four classic films at the acclaimed outdoor music venue’s grassy hillside in Jacksonville. Each “Movie Night at Britt” will feature a large, on-stage screen and Britt’s concert quality sound system for a rare presentation of music-themed movies under the stars. From Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, to the Beatles, to Tuvan Throat Singers, to The Music Man himself, Britt and the AIFF offer the perfect way to enjoy a warm Southern Oregon evening under the stars for the price of a movie. Pack a picnic dinner and drinks, or enjoy Britt concessions, in reserved seating or on your blanket under the stars. Tickets for "Movie Nights at Britt" are $8 lawn and $10 reserved.
Grateful Dawg
Saturday, July 27, 9p at Britt in Jacksonville
The deeply rooted musical friendship between the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia and mandolin master David Grisman is exquisitely detailed in the musical documentary Grateful Dawg. The film includes live Garcia/Grisman performances and rare personal moments from the studio, backstage and home-style jam sessions as well as interviews with friends and family. It traces the Garcia/Grisman connection from their earliest days as budding bluegrass musicians, through the creation of the legendary band "Old & In the Way" in the mid '70s, to the Garcia/Grisman Band that highlighted their love of traditional acoustic music in the '90s. Genghis Blues
Friday, August 27, 8:45p at Britt in Jacksonville
In 2007 the AIFF first presented the work of filmmaker Adrian Belic with two films, the Ashland audience favorite documentary Beyond the Call and the Academy Award nominated Genghis Blues about the unique life of Paul Pena. After writing the top-ten hit "Big Old Jet Airliner" for Steve Miller, the legally-blind Pena had played blues with the greats T-Bone Walker, B.B. King and Bonnie Raitt when he discovered Tuvan throatsinging on a shortwave radio. He learned the multi-harmonic technique, incorporated it into his blues music, flew to the remote country of Tuva, near Siberia, and won the national throat singing contest. Genghis Blues is about a man with an unquenchable curiosity and love of music. Pena's story is truly an inspiration to all. Buy tickets here.
