The line-up of the 27th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN and tickets are already at a premium.
From June 26 to the 4th of July, Germany largest summer film festival will be screening over 200 films on 15 screens.
“We’re screening the best new films in world”, Festival Director Andreas Ströhl is proud to admit, “Our program, with its many highlights and discoveries, reminds us of how much fun movies can be. You won’t be bored, we can guarantee that.”
The FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is held annually by the Internationale Münchner Filmwochen GmbH
a non profit organisation run jointly by The Free State of Bavaria, The City of Munich, SPIO - the "umbrella organisation" of the German film industry and Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting).
FILMFEST MÜNCHEN was established in 1983. Next to the Berlinale, it is Germany's largest festival with over 1.300 000 admissions to date. Annually, over 1.500 film-industry-related professionals from around the world as well as over 600 members of the press and media are accredited. Since 1983, FILMFEST MÜNCHEN has presented over 3.800 international, European or German premieres (feature films, documentaries, shorts and films for television).
This years festival is divided up into 9 section with a programme of more than 200 films, as well as a special retrospective on the acclaimed English Director Stephen Frears focusing on his first shorts made in 1968 onto his first feature film MY BEAUTIFUL LAUNDRETTE which also put Daniel Day Lewis on the map and all the way to his latest effort THE QUEEN
There will be international premieres of Paul Cotter’s bittersweet comedy BOMBER, Steve Jacobs’ adaptation of JM Coetze’s DISGRACE, starring John Malkovich, which won the FIPRESCI Prize at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and has just screened to sell out audiences at the annual Sydney International Film Festival.
With over 30 world premieres at this year’s Munich Filmfest most are German premieres.
Some of the stars that will be at this years festival include Johnny Depp, Justin Timberlake, Jeff Bridges, Joaquin Phoenix, Keira Knightley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Emmanuelle Béart, Penélope Cruz, Pedro Almodóvar and Michael Mann.
With an extensive number of exciting new films by up and coming filmmakers from around the world, the new wave of Italian directors, filmmakers from Africa – or the young British newcomer, Duncan Jones (his father is David Bowie) who is presenting his debut film MOON.
