NAFA SHOWFEST at Bondi!

NAFA, (Networking Action for Filmmakers & Actors) have been around the Sydney scene for quite a number of years now building up a large following of locally based artists involved in the film industry. Twice a year they hold a festival of shorts films produced by the members themselves. This month NAFA will be screening its first festival for 2008. And when you lok at some of the names involved, this is definitely not just for fun anfd games. Max Cullen, Mark Treverrow are just two of the talented actors that appear in this years festival. So head down to Bondi Junction April 28 for a fun and enjoyable evning and maybe even do a little bit of networking!

Lachlan Macquarie (Trevorrow) is remembered by history as the New South Wales Governor who, through his energy and vision, turned the corrupt, rum-ruled, tent-and-dirt-track settlement of Sydney Town into the beginnings of a city. What history fails to record is his beloved wife’s (Markey) vision of an opera house at Bennelong Point.

The Mouse That Ate My Brain

A homeless man (Cullen) tells how the loss of his ear during a vicious mugging began a terrible downward spiral of fear and obsession, in which he grew a replacement ear on the back of a mouse, slowly losing his sanity when he believes the dead rodent has returned to claim its ear.

Admission: Members free, non-Members $10
Show-Fest is a unique short film festival that showcases the diverse talents of our Members. Being interactive, the Q&A with the actors and filmmakers after each screening is both fun and insightful.
In 2008 we are offering HD and 35mm projection of films in a real cinema environment.
Important Points
• Members can submit any number of films for free. Non-members can become Members by submitting a Membership Application Form (and payment) along with their entry.
• Film can be of any genre, from any year.
• Film should be no longer than 15 minutes. Slightly longer entries will be considered, based on merit.
• Cast and crew will be invited onstage for a Show & Tell. (Only Members will receive free entry.)
• All entrants agree that they have read and understood the Competitions (G078) information sheet from the Australian Copyright Council.
Action-Fest

Entry Deadline: Monday, 28 July 2008
Location: Greater Union Bondi Junction Cinema, Level 6, 500 Oxford St, Westfield Bondi Junction
The reason for choosing the word “action” is its clear association with the language of filmmaking. It is also a ‘doing’ word that implies movement. See if you can spot the “action” in each film!
Total value of prizes in previous years has ranged between AU$13,000 and AU$20,000. A variety of prizes were on offer in 2007. This year’s prizes will be announced once they have been finalised.
Important Points
• All short films must incorporate the word “action”. The films need not be of an action-oriented nature. The word could be in a line of dialogue, or seen onscreen.
• The films must have running times of no more than eight minutes.
• Members can submit any number of films for free. Non-members can become Members by submitting a Membership Application Form along with their entry.
• All entrants agree that they have read and understood the Competitions (G078) information sheet from the Australian Copyright Council.
• Films can be of any genre.
• Cast and crew will be invited onstage for a Show & Tell. (Only Members will receive free entry.)
• Films will undergo pre-selection judging to determine the Top 8.
• A qualified panel of judges drawn from the industry will choose a winner in each of these categories:
o Best Actor
o Best Film
o Best Director
o Best Editor
o Best Cinematographer
o Best Score
o Best Script
• The judging panel will be announced after the entry deadline has passed.
• The audience will also get to vote for their favourite film.
