Bana to star in Star Trek XI
Eric Bana has taken over where Brad Pitt left off. The Aussie actor has just finished filming on ‘The Time Traveller’s Wife’ last December was extremely upbeat when asked about being offered the role that was originally intended as a vehicle for Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, but after their split back in 2005 the rights to the story and the roles were once again on the market. In ‘The Time Travellers Wife’ Bana plays a librarian with a genetic disorder that causes him to time-travel when he is distressed. Bana himself was extremely upbeat when asked about the role.
“I was very fortunate to get that, as it was originally for Brad and Jennifer many years ago. It was their pet project before they broke up,” he said. “It’s a great screenplay and a much coverted role.”
In Star Trek XI, which began filming last year and is slated for release in 2009 Bana plays the villain NERO in the latest instalment of this cult franchise and although he admits he is not a devoted Trekkie, he loved thr series and his character.
Deneuve not feeling the best.
Film Legend Catherine Deneuve arrived in Sydney yesterday to attend the screening of her latest film Apres Lui (After Him) as a guest of the Alliance Francais French Film Festival. But it was the best of starts to her first visit to the Land Down Under. Deneuve, 64, was so ill on arrival after the long flight that she had to be wheelchaired off the plane and ended up an hour late for her scheduled press junket as she took time to rest in her hotel room. Blaming a bout of the flu, Deneuve still managed to raise a smile while explaining why she never pursued a Hollywood career.
“It’s not that I don’t want to go there, it’s just that I’m not offered parts nteresting enough. They have all the actors they need, and for European actors it’s very difficult.”
Deneuve will also be attending the French festivals in both Canberra and Melbourne before heading off back to France.
