Queens Birthday weekend at the Sydney Film Fest

The Queens Birthday weekend is also the first weekend of the Sydney Film Festival which starts Wednesday June 3 and runs until Sunday June 15 at the State Theatre, Greater Union George Street and Dendy down at the Quay.
Some of the highlights for the first weekend include the Australian Premieres of DISGRACE from the Nobel prize winner JM Coetzee’s best seller (Friday/Saturday)and BRONSON an explosive look at the life of Charles Bronson’ a career criminal who has spent only 4 months of the last 34 years out of jail. (Saturday/Sunday)
If you like your horror local, then you can’t miss VAN DIEMANS LAND based on the true story of notorious convict Alexander Pearce who escaped from authorities with 7 other convicts into the Tasmanian Wilderness. When hunger takes over the consequences are dire. (Friday/Sunday)
For the kids there’s Brendan and the Secret of the Kells, an Irish animation that will entertain the whole family. Screening at 12.30 Saturday at Dendy Quays, make it a day out and stroll around the Harbour foreshore and the Botanic Gardens before or after the film.
Other highlights of the weekend include: LAST RIDE starring Hugo Weaving, THE FOX AND THE CHILD narrated by Kate Winslet and BREATHLESS an Asian thriller about a Korean loan shark.
Monday evening the acclaimed Australian film CEDAR BOYS screens at Greater Union. A city drama about a group of young Lebanese who spend their time traveling between their homes in the western suburbs to the eastern suburbs of Bondi and Rose Bay, if you miss out on tickets to this one keep an eye out for its general release later in the year.
Over the weekend there are 80 screenings across the festival. I bet you can find one for every member of your family.
