Rooftop Films Seeks Interns and Volunteers for August and the Fall
Rooftop seeks interns for this fall. We are now accepting applications for positions. Applicants can start immediately or any time this fall.
A great opportunity for young filmmakers and film students: learn how a film festival works and see hundreds of great movies.
Rooftop Films is seeking interns for the end of the summer and/or this fall.
Applications are due no later than August 25th, 2008, but we are accepting applications immediately and we are looking to fill some of our positions as soon as possible. The internships can be done for school credit. Find out your school's internship or field work credit requirements and we will work with you to accommodate them.
Candidates would be expected to average at least two days a week, and generally the more time you can commit the better. Our offices are on the border of Park Slope and Gowanus, near the R, F, M and G trains in Brooklyn, so please apply only if you will be able to handle that commute. We welcome graduate students and applicants finishing their 1st year of college (or age equivalent) or older.
Internship tasks can include:
Tracking and requesting new independent films Organizing outdoor film
screenings Audio and video tech work Contacting, corresponding and
hosting filmmakers Organizing and maintaining film databases Logging
and capturing films and footage Publicity Organizing our tape library
General office work Anything else you might be interested in-we want
you to see how we work
Candidates should have good experience working with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and experience with Filemaker, HTML, or video editing software is a plus. In addition, our interns will have an opportunity to learn a variety of technical skills, including Avid and Final Cut Pro digital editing skills.

Rooftop Films is a non-profit film festival and production collective based in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1997, Rooftop Films is a grassroots group that has grown into one of New York's leading film organizations. Above all, we are a community -- a collective collaboration between filmmakers and festivals, between audience members and artists, between venues and neighborhoods. Our goal is to create a vibrant independent filmmaking community that bridges cultural boundaries. At Rooftop Films, we bring the underground outdoors.

Rooftop Filmmakers' Fund (grants for filmmakers) Rooftop Films
Production Collective (collaborations between filmmakers) Tours / Curating (Rooftop at universities, museums, etc. in cities around the world)
Equipment Rentals (low-cost production and exhibition for artists and non-profits)
Education (collaborations with schools and youth media organizations to teach video)
Rooftop Films Discussions (seminars with filmmakers)

We will need volunteers for 35 shows this summer, all of which will be outdoors between now and Saturday, September 26th.
Most shows are on Friday or Saturday nights, with a few special shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Volunteers can help out at as many and as few shows as they are available for.
