A new documentary by Bill Guttentag & Dan Sturman
The Academy Award(R)shortlisted and PGA nominated documentary SOUNDTRACK FOR A REVOLUTION opens in Brooklyn at the BAM Rose Cinemas On Friday, January 22nd
SOUNDTRACK FOR A REVOLUTION tells the story of the American civil rights movement through its powerful music - the freedom songs protestors sang on picket lines, in mass meetings, in paddy wagons, and in jail cells as they fought for justice and equality.
Featuring new performances of freedom songs by John Legend, Joss Stone, Wyclef Jean, The Roots, Richie Havens and others, alongside riveting footage and interviews with civil rights leaders and footsoldiers.
The film expores how music empowered African-Americans, enabling people to give voice to words that could be sung but not said, and which otherwise might not have been heard, and inspiring the community and others to stand up for their rights.
Directed by: Bill Guttentag & Dan Sturman
Featuring: John Legend, Wyclef Jean, The Roots, Joss Stone, Blind Boys of Alabama, Mary Mary, Richie Havens, Anthony Hamilton, Angie Stone, The Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir
