SPAA FRINGE returns to Sydney!
August 5th 2008 16:00
Last years SPAA FRINGE as part of the leadup to the SPAA Conference on the Gold Coast has returned to the Paddington Town Hall and the Chauvel Cinema for its 2nd year. Held over the weekend of October 24/25 and building on the success of the inaugural festival with some amazing films as well as informative forums, workshops, interactive activities, unique access to the industry's top Producers and obligatory networking festivities such as Opening and Closing night drinks!
The organisers have promised a colossal line up of industry professionals over the weekend which is set to inspire ans encourage new and upcoming filmmakers.Guest speakers include Rick McCallum, Producer Star Wars; Jan Chapman, Producer Lantana; Andrew Mason, Producer The Matrix; and Peter Broderick, specialist in low budget, digital and distribution filmmaking.
2008 also sees the return of Roundtables, which, with over 40 participants, facilitate a broader understanding of our VIP guest's role in the industry, including the organisation of their company, and the types of projects they are interested in. 2008 SPAA FRINGE will also host over 50 One-on-One's which allow delegates to talk candidly for 25 minutes with a senior industry player about theirproject, career and funding opportunities, etc
"SPAA Fringe is the place where the disconnected can connect. It allows out-there film projects and their filmmakers to come in from the cold and learn about the mainstream industry in a lively and challenging way that's not about compromising their creativity." - Geoff Brown, Executive Director, SPAA
As was the case at last years SPAA FRINGE, the four finalists of the annual DigiSPAA competition will be announce and all four will be screened over the weekend. Last years John L Simpson won the SPAARTAN award for MENS GROUP, a semi improvisational film that began with just a concept and an few anecdotal items. The cast was then left to create and build their characters throughout the rehearsal and filming processes. The film has since gone on to major critical success with screenings at the Sydney and Melbourne International Film Festivals as well Rotterdam, Copenhagen and Warsaw.
Tuesday 29th July marked the launch of 2008 SPAA FRINGE. The website is now live for your chance to purchase tickets. SPAA Fringe, an initiative of the Screen Producer's Association of Australia (SPAA), is a forum for emerging Producers to gain knowledge, be inspired and evoke innovation within the film industry.
Stay tuned for more announcements, including the line-up speakers, program highlights and gala events.
