THE COVE AT AIFF THIS FRIDAY!
September 17th 2009 08:48
Don't miss two special showings of The Cove, the film that won this year's Sundance documentary audience award and Roger Ebert calls a "certain Oscar nominee," this Friday, September 18 at the Varsity Theatre at 6:00p and 8:20p.
Covert filmmaking turns The Cove into a gripping action-adventure thriller as former dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry - who captured and trained the five dolphins who played the title character in the international television sensation "Flipper" - has a radical change of heart and works to protect the mammals. The New York Times said the film "unfolds like a spy thriller" and calls his actions in defense of dolphins in a remote inlet in Japan, (the 'cove' of the film title), "one of the most audacious and perilous operations in the history of the conservation movement."
Tickets for these special screenings of The Cove are discounted 25% for AIFF members and available now at the Varsity Theatre Box Office. The festival's monthly series features Southern Oregon premieres and encores of film festival favorites showing on selected Fridays through November at the Varsity Theatre. The series benefits the non-profit film festival and is made possible by Coming Attractions Theatres.
