The French Kissers Nominated for Prix Louis Delluc Best First Film

Nominations for the 2009 Prix Louis Delluc were announced at the weekend, including three films scheduled for Australian and New Zealand release by Palace Films: The French Kissers, Welcome and I'm Glad My Mother is Alive.
Riad Sattouf's debut feature The French Kissers has been nominated for the Louis Delluc prize for Best First Film. Premièring in the 2009 Cannes Film Festival Directors Fortnight, The French Kissers is a comedy about a pair of teens who are doing their best to get through adolescence, and the trials and tribulations of high school life, unscathed.
Achieving over one million admissions in the first eight weeks of release in France, The French Kissers is set for national release in Australia on December 26, 2009.
Among the eight films vying for the top prize are two slated for release by Palace Films in 2010, Philippe Lioret's Welcome and newly acquired I'm Glad My Mother is Alive from father and son team Claude and Nathan Miller.
Welcome, both written and directed by Lioret (Don't Worry, I'm Fine), follows a 17-year-old Kurdish refugee in his efforts to reunite with his girlfriend who has emigrated to England. The film, which stars Vincent Lindon, was awarded the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival and is set for Australian release on April 1, 2010.
With plans for an Australia and New Zealand release in 2010, Claude and Nathan Miller's I'm Glad My Mother is Alive will also be considered for the 72nd Prix Louis Delluc. Based on a real-life incident, I'm Glad My Mother is Alive tells the story of an adopted boy who forges a curious relationship with his birth mother.
Winners of the Prix Louis Delluc and Louis Delluc prize for Best First Film will be announced in Paris on December 11.
