World Film Festivals - by SimonC

The St Kilda Film Festival's going on tour

June 15th 2009 12:00
The St Kilda Film Festival is packing up its things at home and venturing out on its biggest National Tour yet. Running from July to September the tour will be visiting every Australian capital city and over 20 regional spots. Over 2 sessions the national tour will showcase the best of the Top 100 films that screened in its counterpart in Melbourne.

“The exciting short films that we show at St Kilda are richer and more rewarding in form, content and style than the assembly line features that screen at most multiplex’s these days. Now we’re hitting the road, so come and try them!”, said St Kilda Film Festival Director, Paul Harris.

As always there are some familiar faces including family act Barry and Miranda Otto in Peter O’Brien’s Schadenfreude; having a massive identity crisis is Underbelly’s Gyton Grantley in Being Carl Williams also starring Damon Gameau and Directed by fellow actor Abe Forsythe; veteran actors Lynette Curran and Roy Billing lend their talents to the emotive Boundless, about Craig, a 35 year-old man with Down Syndrome whose quest for independence leads him to confront his dreams head-on; equally compelling is Dogs Run Loose Around Here – the story of a woman who temporarily loses her young daughter.

Fans of Wall-E will be amazed by animation Tin Can Heart, about a lonely tin puppy looking for love; another animation in the tour program is the humorous tale of a caveman who discovers the greatest thing of all time – First Love.

Other highlights include Amiel Courtin-Wilson’s Cicada which has just screened at the Cannes Film Festival; and multi-film festival award winning The Ground Beneath a film about a child’s resilience and the strength of friendship. Both films also screened at the recent Sydney International Film Festival

National tour dates:
