TROPFEST signature 2011 is the KEY.
February 24th 2010 06:29
John Polson was extremely pleased with the 18th instalment of his and now the worlds short film festival TROPFEST screened live in Sydneys domain on Sunday night. The first prize was taken out by long term entrant Abe Forsythe who admitted he has entered the festival at least 10 times over the last 15 years and was ecstatic to finally take home the first prize after so many attempts.
Festival Director John Polson commented, “2010 has been one of the strongest years yet, both in terms of the quality of the films and the audience attendance. Abe’s film was a massive crowd pleaser. His skill, combined with the topical nature of his film, meant that the
audience response was overwhelming. He deserved to win”.
But while the evening was an overall success, some members of the crowd were displeased with what seemed like an extended delay during interval and the organisers beginning to pack the event up before the films had finished screening.
The panel of six celebrity judges included; Genevieve Clay, Michael & Peter Spierig, Elijah Wood, Toni Collette, & David Michôd. A host of Australian identities turned out to celebrate Australian film including Baz Luhrmann, Warwick Thornton, Peter Helliar, Claudia Karvan, Pia Miranda, Jessica Marais, Jeremy Simms, Jacki Weaver, & Les Hill.
Following the entertainingTropJr around the corner from the main arena, the 60,000 plus crowd were briefly entertained by one of Australia's much loved rock bands Hoodoo Gurus before Adam Spencer took over the hosting duties.
