FILMS COMING SOON TO CHAUVEL
BEING IN HEAVEN (G) (2009/AUS/93mins/35mm)
Written, produced and directed by best-selling self-development author & presenter Michael D Rowland (Absolute Happiness), BEING IN HEAVEN is a new narrative that expands on the concepts introduced in his book – that a life of enjoyment, success and wellbeing is available to anyone who is willing to awaken the true self and live consciously. Jason Masterman (Daniel Whyte) is a young and successful New York stockbroker whose career comes to a bitter and humiliating end. Having lost everything, he retreats to the other side of the globe, to his home town of Sydney, where a chance meeting with a mysterious man in a local restaurant will transform the way he will live the rest of his life.
NORTH FACE (M) (2008/GER/121mins/35mm)
Based on a true story, NORTH FACE is a gripping adventure drama about a competition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps. In July of 1936 - less than a year after the most recent and fatal attempt, two top German mountaineers, Toni Kurz (Benno Fürmann) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Florian Lukas), take up the challenge to become the first to scale the infamous rock face, as the international press, and the Nazis, look on.
"A mountaineering adventure more tense, more edge-of-the-seat suspenseful, than Touching the Void? Almost incredibly, this German drama, based on a true story, is that film.” Anthony Quinn, THE INDEPENDENT (UK)
Exclusive Sydney Premiere Season commences Feb 18.
MID-AUGUST LUNCH (PG) (2008/ITAL/75mins/35mm)
Acclaimed screenwriter Gianni Di Gregorio’s multi-award winning debut is an utterly charming tale of good food, feisty ladies and unlikely friendships during a very Roman holiday. Broke, and armed with only a glass of wine and a wry sense of humor, middle-aged Gianni (Di Gregorio) is forced to entertain his 93-year-old mother and three other lively mamas in their ancient apartment during Italy’s biggest summer holiday, Pranzo di Ferragosto.
Sydney Premiere Season commences Mar 4
FIVE MINUTES OF HEAVEN (CTC) (2009/IRE/90mins/35mm)
WINNER! – AUDIENCE AWARD (BEST FEATURE) –SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL
From acclaimed director Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall) and starring Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt, FIVE MINUTES OF HEAVEN is a story inspired by two extraordinary lives, which explores the challenges of coming to terms with Northern Ireland’s troubled past. In 1975, 11-year-old Catholic Joe Griffin witnessed the killing of his brother by a young Ulster Volunteer Force member, Alistair Little. The impact of the murder destroyed the lives of Joe and his family, who could not come to terms with the loss. Working closely with both men, screenwriter Guy Hibbert creates a unique and compelling film that moves from a powerful re-enactment of these tragic events to a fictional interpretation of what might happen should these two men ever come face to face.

THE RED SHOES (G) (1948/US/136mins/35mm)
Restored and back on the big screen – Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger’s sumptuous technicolour triumph! "Why do you want to dance?" "Why do you want to live?" Moira Shearer is absolutely dazzling as Vicky, a dancer torn between an authoritarian teacher who loves her work (Anton Walbrook), and a young composer who just loves her (Marius Goring). The former cannot allow her a personal life; the latter can't make room for her devotion to her art. Caught in the middle, the vivacious Vicky faces impossible choices from which neither her charm nor her talent can save her. "Truly the most beautiful technicolour film ever made. Enduring & enthralling" Martin Scorsese.
