WHAT’S YOUR STORY?

January 13th 2009 16:01
Pitching sessions can be quite cutthroat, and if you haven’t prepared yourself for the onslaught then your likely to die a horrible death on the day. Now with the trouble-free availability of cameras and facilities assisting budding filmmakers the pitch process is heading in a new direction.

A recent article in an antipodean film magazine discussed the use of the dvd pitch as the face of the future as far as trying to get your story or idea funded. The idea was to make the film you want to make but compact it into 5 – 10 minutes. Send off your completed film to all and sundry with the idea being that if they like your work as well as your idea, you receive the financial and organizational support you need. The same subject was broached even more strongly at last years SPAA FRINGE whilst also touching on the internet as a new major player. With today’s technology here is no respectable reason why any prospective filmmaker can’t get their ideas out there to be seen by the majority of decision makers.

Metroscreen has touched on another idea with the 3 minute film. Basically you make a 3 minute short in any genre, on any subject and using any format you like. Finalists chosen will then receive a festival atmosphere screening where the top three films chosen receive equipment, facilities hire and logistical support to the value of $7500 to make their next work (or expand the original idea).

“A big part of Metro Screen is encouraging members to tell their story.” says Michael Chrisoulakis, Network Coordinator, “The three minute time limit will be a creative challenge, but the rewards are definitely worthwhile. The production support we’re offering could let you make your next film on us.”

So get out there, start filming and TELL YOUR STORY!.
